Over the last year we noted that many of our contacts started to become more and more interested in microRNA (abbreviated miRNA). This trend has recently also been confirmed by the analysts.

According to the estimates from BCC Research in Nov 2014, the global market for miRNA research tools, services, diagnostics and drug discovery is expected to increase towards $1 billion by 2019 from about $480,000 2013. This corresponds to a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12.6% for the period of 2014 to 2019, and we can expect a growing number of pharmaceutical and biotech companies and related academia to becoming involved in miRNA research.

Rapid growth in miRNA research the last years has driven growth and innovation of the global miRNA tools and services market. At Persomics we are happy to see this development and believe that miRNA will in the near future show great potential in the diagnosis and treatment of many diseases.

miRNAs are a class of gene regulators, which, when produced by a cell, are able to turn off specific sets of genes through post-transcriptional mechanisms. miRNA research has been one of the most promising contributors to modern medicine in recent times. Still at the developmental stage, miRNA research has helped the medical sector to better understand the dynamics of various diseases from a different perspective.

To learn more about miRNA, more information can be found at Wikipedia, PubMed or Startbioinfo.

MicroRNA Research Tools, Diagnostics and Therapeutics: Global Markets from BCC Research provides an overview of the current state of the miRNA market, focusing mainly on continuing research endeavors, newly emerging tools, reagents, techniques, diagnostics and therapeutic products. Forecast projections are provided for the period, 2014 to 2019.
